The Secretary-General of the Shura Council Hon. Abdul-Jalil Ibrahim Al-Tareef stressed on the importance of continued cooperation and coordination between the secretariats of the Shura and Representatives Councils and the United Nations Development Program to support the efficiency of the Secretariats’ staff, and towards improving the level of their performance and assist to support the legislative work of both councils’ members, pointing out that the creation of mechanisms for joint action between the two secretariats would help to accelerate the pace of development to reach for desired results. During the participation in the opening of a workshop on strategic planning for administrators, managers and department heads in the secretariats of the Shura and Representatives councils, and in the presence of Hon. Mr. Agha, the resident representative of UNDP in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the assistant secretaries-general, managers and department heads in the Secretariats, the Secretary-General of the Shura Council praised the existing cooperation between Shura and Representatives councils and the United Nations Development Program, noting that such cooperation would open new horizons that achieve exchange of experiences and enhance capabilities and capacities to serve supporting work of the legislative authority which is reflected positively on the role of the members of the Shura and Representatives councils.
For his part, the resident representative of UNDP Mr. Agha indicated that the workshop comes within the framework of the cooperation agreement signed between the two chambers and the UNDP which aims at building the capacity of the Secretariat in the Shura and Representatives councils, pointing out that the UNDP seeks to promote the work of the legislature as an essential element of "good governance", pointing out that the UNDP looks forward to working with the Shura and Representatives councils for the development of parliamentary capacity and staff in the secretariats.
Thus, the workshop which was held during the period 16-19 August to introduce participants to the principles, concepts and methodologies for strategic planning and its importance in promoting the development of the legislative management in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and enhance the planning skills for participants and introducing methods and training techniques that can be adopted in the preparation of the strategic plan of the Shura and Representatives councils, as well as to assist participants in preparing the overall framework of the Strategic Plan in order to work on the development of this framework and the production of strategic plans at a later stage, as well as work on providing the participants with the opportunity appropriate for the exchange of experiences and knowledge and seek to build a common language among themselves, which contribute to the formation of support groups of peers.
