Legislative branch's achievements in promoting human rights praised

Second Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council, Jamila Ali Salman, has affirmed that the royal reform project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa promoted the pivotal role of the legislative branch in consolidating the human rights system in the Kingdom of Bahrain. She pointed out the kingdom’s advanced legislation and laws aimed at fostering human rights, being a pillar in development and growth.
 
The Shura Council Second Deputy Chairman made the statement during a meeting in Kigali with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)’s Advisor at the Human Rights Council, Matthieu Stolz. She gave a detailed presentation on the contribution of the legislative branch to the preparation of the Universal Periodic Review report by the UN Human Rights Council and the efforts and achievements brought about by the Kingdom of Bahrain in the human rights field.
 
The Shura Council Second Deputy Chairman commended the efforts of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to promote the state of law and institutions, guarantee social justice and protect human rights and freedom. She pointed out that the National Assembly is operating within the framework of national responsibility and the constitutional prerogatives to update laws and present proposals to foster human rights and assert Bahrain’s advanced status in this respect.
 
For his part, Matthieu Stolz commended the achievements of the legislative branch in the human rights field and its distinguished contributions in the preparation of the Universal Periodic Review report by the UN Human Rights Council. He stressed that the Kingdom of Bahrain is considered a model to emulate, calling on the international parliaments to benefit from its distinguished experiences and accomplishments in various areas.
