Shura Chairman stresses Bahrain's active international role

Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh has stressed the kingdom’s unwavering commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, to supporting international covenants and systems. He asserted Bahrain’s continuous contribution to achieving the sustainable development goals, taking pride in the kingdom’s accomplishments since the launch of the royal reform project.

In a statement marking the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, which is observed on October 24, the Shura Council Chairman praised the government’s role in mapping out programmes to fast-track the kingdom’s growth and development. He lauded the efforts of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and continuous directives to adopt policies to boost international cooperation and integration in order to foster global peace and stability.

Al Saleh pointed out that the Kingdom of Bahrain, since its accession to the UN 50 years ago, has been able to keep a record of achievements that earned it an advanced status on the world map. He added Bahrain showed a great capability in carrying out international conventions and covenants and achieving international partnership in facing various challenges, including mainly the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. He affirmed Bahrain’s distinguished success in handling the pandemic thanks to HRH the Crown Prince’s leadership of the kingdom’s task force and his direct follow-up on all steps taken by the national campaign in fighting the disease.

The Shura Council Chairman praised Bahrain’s modern and democratic legislative system, stressing that the kingdom will continue its efforts and cooperation with the international community to ensure activation of the UN covenants, mainly those pertaining to respect of human rights and equality and justice between all. He noted that celebrating the UN anniversary is considered as an international occasion that underscores the values and principles the organisation was founded for. He also described the occasion as an opportunity to garner international efforts to achieve global peace and overcome challenges.
