Manama: Sept. 4 -- (BNA)-- The Shura Council's Committee on Human Rights has welcomed the Royal Decree No.: 61/2013 issued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa stipulating the creation of the Commission of the Rights of Prisoners and Detainees and definition of its jurisdiction. The committee members described the Commission as a new addition to the Kingdom's impeccable human rights record and accomplishments.
The committee applauded the Kingdom of Bahrain's constantly successive positive developments in terms of the protection of human rights and dignity in harmony with international conventions and agreements joined and ratified by the Kingdom, at the top of which comes the anti-torture convention which bans all sorts of maltreatment, harsh, inhumane or derogatory treatment.
The committee members praised the Kingdom's constant efforts in terms of establishing institutions and agencies to protect and preserve human rights for Bahraini citizens and to safeguard their dignity in addition to the other efforts of the State through its constitutional organizations which complete and develop the legal and legislative setup commensurate with latest developments in this domain.
