Chairman of the Shura Council’s Committee on Financial and Economic Affairs, Khalid Hussain Al Masqati, praised the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, to reinstate ‘Mazaya’ housing programme to fulfill the eligible applications.

This directive treats one of the important topics tabled within the State General Budget in presence of Finance and National Economy Minister and the Minister of Housing, he added.

The committee affirmed the importance of the provision of the necessary allocations to the Ministry of Housing to ensure the sustainability of this service to the benefit of the largest segment of citizens possible.

The committee confirmed its support to the amendment of Mazaya programme to cover the largest segment of citizens.

Upon studying the two-year State General Budget 2019-2020 associated with Decree 19/2019, the committee pointed out the need to ensure the sufficiency of financial allocations to the basic services including health, education and housing. The committee was keen to glean the views of the concerned ministers and their assurances of sustainability of the same quality services within the budgetary allocations.

The committee discussed the government views and responses to the questions and inquiries posed by the committee during the joint (executive-legislative) meeting before deciding to begin compilation of its initial report on the State General Budget to submit it to the Council’s office after completion of the joint meetings.

The committee will hold an expanded meeting with the Shura Council members to present the outcome of its meetings and deliberations with the Government and the Council of Representatives. The committee will present the State Budget details and the consensuses reached before discussion of the State General Budget 2019-2020.
