Brussels : Head of the Shura Council’s Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee Dr. Salah Ali, who is heading a Bahraini parliamentary delegation to the Belgian capital, Brussels, has affirmed that democracy in Bahrain is safeguarded and that constitutional institutions are going ahead with the development of democracy.

He was speaking at a meeting with Amnesty International Director Philippe Hinsmans at the Embassy of Bahrain in Brussels.
The delegation has stressed the Kingdom’s keenness to respect and protect human rights, which are guaranteed by the Constitution and the reforms project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

"Bahrain has emerged stronger than before thanks to the people’s unity against the plotters. All Bahrainis are one family and no one will be able to drive wedges between them," Dr. Ali said.

"The current phase requires us to focus efforts on boosting security and stability, then mend the rift caused by the crisis in order to maintain national unity which has always characterised the peaceful Bahraini people," he added.

The delegation also met Chief of Operations at Doctors Without Borders Jerome Oberreit at the embassy, and assured him that some doctors, nurses and paramedics at the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) committed dangerous violations that contradict medical principles. He stressed that humanitarian principles have to be above every thing else, as the medical profession is above politics.

Dr. Salah Ali also explained to Doctors Without Borders that the SMC was taken over by rioters, and that a number of doctors conducted unnecessary surgeries to make injuries worse so they could be photographed and broadcast globally.

They were assured that the Kingdom is now stable, and that the SMC is back to normal as the biggest medical centre in the Middle East.
