Meeting with the UNDP

The Secretary-General of the Shura Council Hon. Abdul Jalil Ibrahim Al-Tareef highly praised the work carried out by the Office of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and their programs and activities to support and consolidate the foundations of democracy in the Kingdom.

In this regard, Hon. Al-Tareef pointed to the sound directives by the Chairman of the Shura Council H.E. Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, that call for further cooperation with the UNDP in order to provide Shura Council’s personnel with the best skills of a professional high quality based on parliamentary experience in Bahrain and other countries, with a view of promoting the significant role played by the members of the Shura Council.

Hon. Al-Tareef pointed out the importance of organizing courses and workshops to develop the capacity of supportive staff of the Secretariat including the Directorate of Committees.

This came during a meeting this morning, with the Assistant Resident Representative of UNDP in the Kingdom of Bahrain Mohammed Al-Sharif and the Administration Advisor Mazen Shuaib.

In this meeting it was discussed of activating the cooperation agreement in the field of training between the Shura Council and the UNDP, aiming at developing the administrative system in the Secretariat.

The meeting also included a number of programs and workshops aimed at activating the services provided the Shura Council’s members, in addition to discussing a strategic plan for the Secretariats of the Shura and the Representatives councils through using international expertise in the parliamentary field.

It is noteworthy that the cooperation agreement signed between the Shura Council and the UNDP aims at continuing to build the capacity of the Secretariat staff and members of the Shura Council, as the agreement aims to improve management skills, through preparing comprehensive training programs for all the staff of the Shura Council’s Secretariat.
