Bahrain’s biggest political movement, the Al Wefaq National Islamic Society, came in for even more criticism yesterday – this time from the Shura Council.
The upper house of Bahrain’s National Assembly waded into a row over comments made during Al Wefaq’s general assembly at the Gulf Air Club, Salmabad.
In a statement, the Shura Council criticised the society for allegedly using the meeting to “defame individuals and families”.
It also criticised Al Wefaq for questioning how Bahrain is being ruled, the constitution and the political regime governing the country.
The manager of the Gulf Air Club has since been sacked, according to our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej, and the Cabinet has already condemned Al Wefaq for comments made at the meeting.
