On the occasion of international day for democracy which falls on the 15th of September, the Shura and Representatives Councils issued the following statement:-

The Shura and Representatives Councils extend congratulations to all Arab and International Parliaments on the occasion of international day for Democracy for 2011, under the theme "What citizens expect from their parliament?".

The Councils stress the importance to consolidate righteous democratic values via legislative and oversight mechanisms. Thus the current and future aspirations of our citizens are achieved through interconnecting of members of both chambers to discuss various issues e.g. raising individual level of health, education, social, economy and ensuring human dignity through emphasizing on the protection of political rights for groups and individuals, and activating oversight tools on the performance of the executive authority to ensure eradicating corruption and safeguarding public funds and future generation wealth, and adhering to stimulating human rights conventions, which were signed and committed by our Kingdom.

The citizens are looking forward to establish community security, safeguard harmony, co-existence and national unity; preserve the achievements of our country, and loyalty to the country and the leadership, establish basics for democracy, seek common philosophy for relations between the components of the community, stimulate the role of the youth and boost the spirit of patriotism.

The Shura and Representatives Councils are the outcome of the reform project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, and we pray to God Almighty to keep our country safe and stable under the leadership of His Majesty, and the support of His Royal Highness the Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa, and the backing of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, and blessing all efforts aiming at country's unity and public welfare.
